Orange Growers Association Opens New Headquarters to Boost Ghana’s Citrus Industry.

The Orange Growers Association (OGA) has opened a new head office in Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen and grow Ghana’s citrus industry.

The new headquarters reflects OGA’s commitment to farmer empowerment, sustainable agriculture, and positioning Ghana as a competitive player in the global orange market.

The inauguration ceremony brought together traditional authorities, government officials, civil society organizations, development partners, and agribusiness stakeholders, highlighting the importance of collaboration in transforming the citrus sector.

OGA partners present at the event included GIZ, SONO, Ankaa Tropical Oranges, ASEDA Kitchen, Citriville, Mr. Pig, OJ Global, Grace Valley Farms, Sun Harvest Juice, COMPASS, Eastfield Farms, and Cofrutos.

In his welcome address, Nana Yaw Baffour Frimpong, President of the Orange Growers Association, described the new headquarters as the result of years of dedication and partnership.

“This new head office represents the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment from our members and partners.”

He encouraged young people to explore opportunities in orange farming, noting that citrus production has become a viable and profitable agribusiness.

“Orange farming is no longer the preserve of the aged,” he emphasized.

Opanyin Nimo Ahinkorah, Chairman of the OGA Board, described the new office as the association’s strategic nerve centre.

“This head office will serve as the hub where we develop strategies, build partnerships, and make decisions to advance Ghana’s orange industry.”

He reiterated OGA’s vision to elevate oranges into a top export commodity and achieve global recognition.

Speaking on the association’s progress, Theodore Tsidi Kloba, Business Development Manager, highlighted OGA’s rapid expansion. GA has grown from 273 members in 2020 to over 3,000 members across 12 districts and 82 rural communities, reflecting strong farmer confidence and partner support.

OGA continues to work with key partners such as Eastfield Farms, Sono Ghana, COMPASS (Ivory Coast), and Ankaa Tropical to introduce modern farming solutions.

These partnerships support farmers with:

  • Improved extension services
  • Drone technology
  • Post-harvest loss reduction
  • Pest and disease management
  • Better market access and pricing

Alexander Sapara-Grant, CEO of OJ Global LLC (Dubai, UAE), praised OGA’s focus on sustainability and value addition. He supported OGA’s regional operations with the donation of five motorbikes and two tricycles.

Obrempong Sintim Poku III, Mansohene and Benkumhene of Akyem Kotoku State, commended OGA’s inclusive approach and pledged continued support, including access to land.

Isaac Mann, Birim Central Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), called for the integration of orange production into the government’s Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme and encouraged households to promote orange consumption for children’s nutrition.

Industry reports project that global orange demand will grow from approximately US$3.7 billion to US$5.6 billion by 2032, at a 4.7% CAGR, presenting strong opportunities for Ghanaian farmers.

The opening of OGA’s new headquarters represents a new era of growth, sustainability, and opportunity for the citrus sector. The Association calls on local and international partners to collaborate in expanding the industry and improving farmer livelihoods.
